Ferndene Ladies
So...What do we play?
We are affiliated to the English Women's Bowling Federation (EWBF) and the Northern Women's Bowling Association.
Our league matches are played under the Northern Women's rules. League matches are played on a Wednesday, usually at 2pm. We play home and away matches. The league game is played with two rinks of three players per team, using two bowls, and playing 21 ends. (When we are able the league games will return to three rinks of three players. The teams have been reduced to two following the pandemic.)
EWBF hold regional competitions (which are optional for you). The winners from each county go to Skegness in August to compete against the other counties in the National Finals.
EWBF also run County Team matches. So for instance, Durham EWBF will play against Cleveland, Derbyshire, or Nottingham, etc. Unfortunately, due to Covid, these team events are currently suspended.
When We Play
Monday is usually a practice day for the club. We play from 12 o'clock till 2pm. This does tend to depend on the weather. If it is raining heavily, we may not be practicing.
Wednesday is league match day. If we are playing at home, we get to the club at about 12.30 to set up for the game. The match usually starts at 2pm.
If it is raining - we will be playing; unless the green becomes waterlogged!
Ferndene Bowling Club hold an ‘organised social bowling session’ on a Tuesday and Saturday where anyone can come along and play, all welcome.
Thursday Jumbles is held for all members of Ferndene Bowling Clubs and anyone is welcome to join us. Entry fee is £2, half of the entry fee being paid out in winnings.
